Make your own panoramic sugar Easter egg

It's not hard to make your own panoramic sugar Easter egg, it only takes a little time. But making these memories with friends or family will leave a longer memory than the beautiful eggs themselves.

First decide the size of the egg you want. Buy plastic Easter eggs and open them vertically in the size you want. They are harder to find than typical plastic eggs.

Collect your ingredients:


  • granulated sugar

  • Meringue powder [find cake decoration in crafts or discount stores]

  • Confectioner's sugar

  • Tartar cream [in the spice section of the grocery store]

  • Coconut [optional - for grass in a panoramic scene]

  • Food coloring [recommended paste color - find them with cake decorations]

Make sure you have these supplies on hand:


  • stencil

  • Spoon, mix and teaspoon

  • Icing decorative bag

  • Icing decoration tips

  • shovel

  • Wire whip for mixer

After determining how many eggs you want to have at the end of the project, plan to double the number of eggs at least. Sugar eggs are subtle, not all eggs can be used at the end of the project.

Making shells

Mix the sugar with a small amount of water - just enough to keep the sugar together when squeezed into a ball.

Fill the plastic Easter egg with half of the wet sugar mixture. Turn it over to the wax paper. If the sugars are combined, continue. If not, please try again. If you can't keep the sugar after a few tries, add a little water.

Once you have successfully transferred the sugar to the wax paper, carefully cut off the narrow end of approximately 1.5 inches. If you are using very large eggs, or if you are using small eggs, you may need to reduce more eggs. This will form an open that you will be able to pass.

Cut a semi-circular stencil that is about 1/2" smaller than the opening. Place it on the sugar and hold it with something to keep the stencil in place. A pile of coins should work well. Unless it is very good.

You will have to wait a few hours to harden the outer casing of the casing. If you try to pick them up too early, your eggs will crash [but you did extra, so this is not a problem]. If you wait too long, your eggs will be too strong and you won't be able to pick up the jelly inside.

The time it takes depends on the amount of water originally used by the sugar, as well as the temperature, airflow and humidity in the room. But consider the number of hours instead of the number of minutes.

Once you can grab the eggs without destroying them, use a teaspoon to pour out the soft candy, leaving a shell about 3/8" to 1/2" thick, which may be slightly thicker for very large eggs.

Let the eggs dry for a few more hours. They should be hard before you move on to the next step.

Make your scene

Waiting for the shell to dry is a good time to make scene numbers. You may decide to use a sugar coat to make a cross, a chicken or a rabbit. Perhaps you have collected plastic characters and you want to immerse them in a sugar-coated garment with a hand-made look. You can decorate small cookies such as teddy bears. Remember that cookies are not as long as pure icing.

To make a full icing decoration, use the following meringue royal icing recipe. This type of icing is dry and hard for a long time. You will also use this type of icing to assemble eggs later, so make sure you keep some eggs later or plan to make more eggs.

Puff pastry royal icing


  • 3-layer spoon meringue powder

  • 1 pound confectioner's sugar, sifted

  • 3-1 / 2 ounces of warm water [1/2 cup minus 1 tbsp]

  • 1/2 teaspoon. Cream of tartar

Mix all ingredients in the bowl of the blender. Play at medium speed for 7 to 10 minutes. Any grease or oil on the bowl or any utensil will make this icing recipe inoperable, so be careful. Knot until the icing is strong enough to maintain its shape. When finished, cover the bowl with a wet towel. Keep it covered as it is dry to make it easy to cover.

Assem your eggs

Select the lower half of an egg and assemble the scene in it. Use royal icing as "grass" at the bottom. Just use food coloring to make it green. You may also want some coconut dyeing to increase the uniform feel of the grass.

Insert a cross, a rabbit or other ornament. Be sure to point them toward the opening.

Use the white royal icing to "stick" the top into place. Allow the eggs to dry before continuing.

After the eggs have dried, use a sugar-coated garment with a decorative tip to apply decorations around the seams and openings. You may also want to add flowers or other designs to the top.

Allow the eggs to dry overnight and then dispose of them again.

If your eggs roll to the side, use a file to flatten the bottom slightly. Or apply a circle of ice on the bottom to help stabilize the eggs.
