Portugal offers a wide range of handicrafts in artist studios, factory showrooms, department stores and hardware stores in all important cities. You can buy these items as souvenirs for your loved ones.

Pottery - Black Pottery

You can buy beautiful handcrafted black pottery from Molelos in northern Portugal. Craftsmen come from families that have been engaged in this work for generations. They studied the tools 150 years ago. They focus on ancient and traditional black pottery.

The pottery is baked at 800 degrees Celsius and fired with resin pine bark and branches. The black pottery has a silvery luster and a sleek look, reminiscent of the Etruscan Bucchero ware from the 7th to the 5th century BC.

Some important black pottery items are tanks of different sizes, pots and oil lamps.

Traditional quartz inlaid pottery is produced in Nisa, central Portugal. Some popular items of this type are hand-made unglazed pitchers and plates of different sizes and colors that can be used as beautiful decorative pieces. These projects require a lot of patience and practice, especially for women.

The quartz inlay pitcher is 10 inches high. These panels are available in 10" and 12" diameters. It should be noted that these items are for decoration only and cannot be used for dining tables.
