Rencong is a traditional weapon in the Aceh region of Indonesia, shaped like L, but if you look closely, it looks more like Bismillah' [called in the name of God] calligraphy. Ren Cong is included in the dagger category [not a knife or sword].
origin
Before people knew Ren Cong, the people of Aceh had been using a weapon called Siwah. These weapons have no handles and are therefore very difficult to use in combat, especially when the weapon has been covered by blood. Due to the blood, these weapons become very slippery and easy to loosen. Therefore, according to the then ruling of Sultan Alaiddin Riyayat Syah Al-Kahhar, Smith subsequently asked to change Siwah with a new model, which was not difficult to use in war. The blacksmith finally added the A-shaped handle Ba [the second letter of the Arabic alphabet] to Siwah. Later this weapon was called reuncong or rincong and was called Rencong in Indonesian.
Ren Cong has achieved success since the end of the 19th century. It is one of the weapons used to wage war against Dutch colonists, especially during the Aceh War between 1873 and 1904. It is symbolic that such weapons are worthwhile as a traditional weapon to inherit the martial arts spirit of Aceh soldiers.
