Remember 10 steps when eating in a Chinese restaurant

Chinese food has attracted many of us because it is delicious and inexpensive. We also think that Chinese food is healthy because it contains a lot of vegetables and a small amount of fat. This is true when preparing Chinese traditional dishes in China. However, American-Chinese restaurants have modified food according to American tastes, so it is not as healthy as traditional restaurants. The Western restaurant offers appetizers, fried rice, butter and sweet sauce, including "good things". Most importantly, these parts are much larger than those served in mainland China. That's why, considering all of this, if you want to eat healthy in a Chinese restaurant, you have to choose wisely.

1. First choose a good restaurant

When you want to enjoy Chinese food, please avoid the typical Chinese restaurant, where you can enjoy the price. You may not want to leave the restaurant until you feel that your money is valuable. Unfortunately, if you do, the restaurant will get your money, but you will get calories. Not a win-win situation. Instead, go to the restaurant where the waiter accepts the order.

2. Start with soup

When eating in a Chinese restaurant, the smart move is to order soup. Two advantages: First, reduce your overall fat, and second, soup soup will fill you. When the waiter brings the main dish, it means eating less.

Start your meal with an appetizer and you may destroy your calories, carbohydrates, fats and other goals. Pork ribs, omelettes, fried wontons and any other fried foods are rich in fat, sugar and calories. If the waitress brings Chinese fried noodles to keep you busy until the food is served, take them away or ask her to take them off the table. Instead, you can kill time by drinking Chinese tea to wait for food. There is no calories without sugar.

3. Select the main course

When choosing a main course, look for dishes that are rich in vegetables and less meaty. You can reduce calories by choosing seafood or chicken instead of beef, pork, lamb or duck. You can also order two dishes: one based on meat and the other mainly vegetables, such as green beans or spinach, and mixed.

4. Avoid fatty dishes

Read the menu carefully to avoid eating the most fat dishes. Some words will give you a clue: beef is rolled into butter or breadcrumbs, crunchy pork, etc. Before you fry with vegetables, first check if the meat is fried. If this is the case, ask if they can fry the meat of your choice instead of frying it.

5. Keep an eye out for hidden carbohydrates

Sweet and sour sauces and other typical Chinese food sauces are rich in carbohydrates, and if you are diabetic, they can boost your blood sugar. Sugar and starch continue to add carbohydrates to many main dishes. You can also find carbohydrates in corn flour for thickening sauces and ingredients used to marinate meat. Read the small words and ask the waiter a lot of questions.

Caution rice

You know, in a Chinese restaurant, you get a big bowl of rice, as you probably know, rice contains a lot of carbohydrates. Avoid fried rice and regular soy sauce for seasoning; you will end up eating a lot of fat and sodium. If possible, fiber-rich brown rice is required. If they don't, please hold the rice. Remember that a cup of rice contains at least 45 grams of carbohydrates.

7. Reduce salt

Order dishes with light sauces, not too thick. If you need soy sauce, ask for a low sodium version and mix it with steamed rice instead of fried rice. To increase the taste of your meal, you can add some spicy sauce; it contains less sodium and less calories.

8. Share dishes

If you have a company, order a main course, soup or aperitif and some rice. Then, share it.

9. Eat with chopsticks

Eat with chopsticks. If you master them as much as I do, they may slow you down. But don't worry, because as everything in life, it has a positive side: you may eat less. Don't fall into the temptation to ask for forks and knives; you may regret it.

10. There are also desserts...

As for desserts, order fruit, not to mention ice cream with walnuts, which, as far as I know, is hard to resist. But if you follow the advice above, it will feel good to have a healthy meal. So why is it ruined?
