Kerala National Festival, onam is the most important annual event for every Malaysian. Onam was celebrated at the Thiruvonam' celebration. One day in Malayalam, Chingam' commemorates Mahabali [also known as Maveli] visiting his land. Everyone, regardless of religion or color, celebrates this festival. Main shopping items for dresses and apparel materials. Everyone buys clothes for themselves and buys gifts for their loved ones. The Onam Festival is the biggest shopping season. More than 90% of handicrafts and cultural relics are sold this season. Electronic products, textiles receive about 50% annual sales in the onam season.
Legend of Onam
The legend behind onam is deeply rooted in the minds of all Malays. The Onam myth is like this. Mahabali is an upright Asura' king. This land is prosperous and the kingdom has peace everywhere. A kingdom is even better than a day without theft, lies or aggression, so the god of heaven is able to do the king Mahabali. Maveli was trapped in a well-planned episode by Lord Vishnu and sent to the world of Patalah. Unlike his ancestors, Maveli was not wrong or guilty; he was allowed to visit his people within a year, which was on Thiruvonam Day in Chingam.
