How does the Vietnam International School fail the millennial youth

The tension between the traditional attitudes of Asian parents and the reality facing young Asians today has been the must-walk international school in the region – and there has never been more than it is now.

Now, there are real, ever-expanding generation gaps in smoking, drinking, teenage sex, teenage pregnancy, LGBT students, teen relationships, pornography and the Internet.

In Vietnam, the country where I have been back home for the longest time in 17 years, my work as an English teacher has made me the front line of war between generations that have occurred in Southeast Asian homes and schools.

Middle-class Asian parents who grew up in the post-Cold War era have been working hard to make their children live a better life. Traditional Confucianism is convinced of the importance of education. They encourage children to study hard, take more classes, do a lot of homework and get good grades, and equip them with iPhones, laptops and all the latest modern equipment. Give their children something they can't own or afford when they are young.

However, all of this comes at a price. In the sweatshop promotion campaign that runs motorcycle traffic on busy streets, the merchants sell long-term imitation Chinese T-shirts, which leads today's modern Vietnamese teenagers to be raised by rented butlers, who cook and clean up. They make money when mom and dad make money.

Thus, although middle-class parents can now send their children to a mid-budget "international" school, these schools offer a mix of Vietnamese national courses and hastily, English English courses without all credits, mathematics foreign teachers and foreign teachers. Teach their children, their children have grown up, and the attitude of modern millennials surrounds the problems that their parents will be shocked. day.

These teenagers now frequent the shisha lounge, smoke weeds, indulge in accidental, unconditional minor sex, meet friends at weekend parties, family, watch Mia Khalifa at Pornhub, during homework hours Drink vodka cruisers, more common things, such as listening to K-Pop, learning to jump hip-hop and playing basketball.

What did these international schools do about this? Absolutely not. In order to gain recognition from international institutions such as the International School Council [CIS], school rules have tightened, students have been punished for minor violations, and schools are working hard to put foreign teachers in the "theme" head without increasing pay. And expect to invest more and more working time in the process of achieving "internationalization", so as to show the best state externally and make appearance change standards for course design.

What is more serious for students, however, is the school's rude treatment of adolescents' individual rights. Schools within this budget are more expensive than Vietnamese public schools, and the quality is far less than the super-exclusive "Vietnamese American High School" experience offered by IB World School to Vietnam's super rich, with a tuition fee of up to US$20,000 per year. Mid-market schools like me work scared of modern teen issues, gossip and scandals, as these schools may alienate the existing customer base of older generation Vietnamese parents. Occasionally, the internal scene of the unruly classroom caused the student's mobile phone to be "specialized" by Vietnamese teaching staff, because carrying a mobile phone to school is a violation of regulations, but actually because the school is afraid that students will upload photos to Facebook for parents to use and the whole world. watch together.

Perhaps the most serious threat to student safety at my work school comes from January 2016, when a boy committed suicide a month before breaking up with his girlfriend, the school announced to the students that from now on, all their Facebook accounts will Being tracked, if there is any indication that they have a boyfriend or girlfriend, the school will call their parents and claim that their grades are being affected. This has led some students to accept physical and language abuse by their parents. Of particular concern is the student LGBT community, as such policies may force LGBT students to "out" to their parents before they are ready, which may expose them to serious risks of domestic violence and abuse.

As the old generation's traditions face-to-face with a new generation of people, tensions are close to breaking through. A new generation of people has no major relationship with casual sex, Internet dating, pornography, recreational material use, and lounging with LGBT friends. in the classroom.

What does that answer? As a frontline teacher, a life coach and a qualified young consultant, my contribution is timely and sometimes straightforward to provide youth self-esteem, personal development, health, wealth, sex, dating and relationships, while advocating and supporting me in various ways. Adolescents sometimes face hostile reactions from school management and other teaching staff.

I now have a plan to build an extracurricular activity center near the school where I work, where my teenagers can learn life skills and the knowledge they need to change their lives, give up their more negative habits and choose new leaders they take The necessary steps to lead the lives they have always wanted and achieve their personal goals. Based on the US 4-H Youth Organization, but "Vietnamization", more emphasis on personal development and learning market skills, which will be valuable in the future online market, my vision is to create a value-driven and exciting informal education This allows my teenagers to believe in themselves and make their dreams come true.

In order to do this, I plan to crowdfund the center through the IndieGogo crowdfunding platform, but to do this, I need a group of fans, fans and supporters who are willing to donate. To this end, I have become a writer and I will soon publish the first novel about the problems my teenagers face. The novel is called "Shisha Girl" and the cover of the book is the picture at the top of this article. It was soon published as a series on the Wattpad, as a printed book and a Kindle on Amazon. I hope this book will give me the fans I need to be a successful IndieGogo campaign.

Check out the Slideshare presentation below for a brief overview of my work to improve my teen life. It's time to play a role. It's time to change the status quo, change the status quo and start new things. Let our new generation of young Asian millennials accept the reality of life in the 21st century. The century, while giving them inspiration and courage, they need to achieve the level of success that parents dream of. Let's get started now!
