Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump watches Peking Opera in the Forbidden City

On Wednesday afternoon, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan visited US President Donald Trump and his wife Melanie Trump in the Forbidden City or the National Palace Museum.

Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon, the first time he has paid a state visit to China since he took office in January.

The performance was held in the Forbidden City's largest opera house, the Joy Music Hall, which was originally built during the Qing Dynasty [1744-1911] in the Qing Dynasty [1744-1995] to entertain the royal family.

Beijing Opera has a history of more than 200 years and is one of the main forms of traditional Chinese drama. It is also one of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. The art combines instrumental music, vocal performances, pantomime, dance and acrobatics.

The president and their wives participated in three classic plays, namely the spring seedlings in the pear garden, the Monkey King and the drunken beauty.

Before watching the show, the president and their wife visited the protection studio of the Palace Museum.

They participated in an antique exhibition and watched the restoration of some historical sites in the museum's conservation studio [called the "Antique Hospital"].

The guests were also invited to experience a Chinese painting on a scroll.

The seminar is China's largest cultural heritage protection center. It uses traditional technology but is equipped with advanced technology.

The two presidents issued positive comments on the in-depth cooperation between the two countries in the restoration of antiques.
