The Chinese New Year is a fifteen-day celebration in January or February. About a quarter of the world's population observes this celebration.
Chinese lion mask crafts and games:
The lion is considered good luck and believes it can resist the evil soul. Traditional lion dance performers make and wear lion masks every year during the Lantern Festival. If you are attending a Chinese New Year party involving young children, then a wonderful craft that is easy to practice further or have your own lion dance is creating a Chinese lion mask.
You will need to:
o paper tray
o yellow [1], red [2] and green [2, lion eye 2 inches in diameter]
o Red ribbon [12-inch long 1⁄2-inch wide strip]
o 18" elastic band
Cut the yellow and red construction paper into strips and alternating colors. Stick to the edge of the cardboard.
Cut the yellow paper into eyes and stick it on the plate.
Mark the hole in the center of the eye so that the child can see through it. [Depending on the age, adults may do this.]
Make nose, mouth, etc. with red construction paper.
By punching, inserting the ends and knotting, an elastic ribbon is attached to secure the mask.
Participants can wear lion masks and make their own or participate in a lion mask parade. Allow each child to vote for the "Best Mask", "The Scariest Mask", "The Most Interesting Mask" and other categories.
