Carly: Deadly Fighting Martial Arts

It is called Eskrima, Arnis and Kali. No matter what name you use, traditional Filipino Martial Arts [FMA] is one of the deadliest and most effective methods of combat on the planet. The Philippine people have used it for generations to defend against intruders and deal with internal quarrels. The global special forces believe that FMA is an efficient combat training option. This is a kind of stick fighting and sword martial arts used to destroy opponents. The FMA is not known for its fancy Kata, just because of its deadly street fighting/one-on-one combat.

history

Like many martial arts, written history is hard to find; in some cases it doesn't exist. Cali is no exception. However, it says that art forms evolved from the needs of a tribe to protect other nearby tribe members. Some people think that Cali has gained a great influence from martial arts originating from India.

The written documents that do exist tell us that Cali was used against the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century; and that the fighting style differed from tribe to tribe. Although the locals tried to hide their fighting style in the dance routine; it is widely believed that the FMA is deeply influenced by the Spanish.

Wars and conflicts have plagued these areas for a long time. There is no doubt that this helps Filipinos to hone art forms and discard useless rubbish. During the Second World War, US special forces first contacted FMA, leading to the spread of art to the United States, especially local experts who were hesitant to share their secrets. Recently, FMA has evolved into a combat system that is easier to learn and systematize, and this system has been taught around the world.

Combat style

Cali teaches the transition between weapon battles, as well as fluid-accurate air combat, one-on-one battles. There are several different systems, but most use amazing, fighting, weapon fighting and throwing maneuvers. In some styles, bites are also used.

Teaching weapons training and one-on-one combat skills together. The weapons used include single sticks, double sticks, sticks/swords and daggers. The most commonly used weapon is the rattan, which is a stick around the length of the trainee's arm. Cali is also known for his fast movements and incredible foot work.

Due to the weapons used in the FMA, it is a deadly and warlike art. In the Philippines, FMA will end up with the death of the opponent. At present, the death struggle is illegal, but this does not prevent local people from doing this. Although many more rational competitors have begun to use wooden sticks instead of knives to reduce the number of deaths.

Different styles

There are many subsets of the FMA fighting system, including:

·San Miguel Eskrima

·Sayoc Kali

·Fast arnis

·Pekiti Tirsia

·Modern Anis

·Lightning Scientific Arnis [LSAI]

·Latigo y Daga

·Lameco Eskrima

Lacoste-Inosanto Kali

·Kalis Ilustrisimo

·Kali Sikaran

·Inayan Eskrima

·Garimot Arnis

·Doce Pares Escrima

·Cabales Serrada Eskrima

·Balintawak

Bottom line

FMA is a hardcore, barbaric martial art. It has a high effect as a military training style and is very useful for everyday people seeking to effectively protect themselves from bad guys. If you live in the Philippines, competition will become fatal; but if you are in the West, FMA is more reasonable. Teaching different styles and combining other martial arts; including Dog Brothers from California, who use Kali and BJJ to teach unique combat systems.
