Book Review - I will cross the river with C Hope Finchbaugh

Courage and hope in persecution

C. I hope that Flinchbaugh's "I am crossing the river" is a fictional description of the heartbreaking drama that happened today in North Korea. Her novels combine interviews from real-life testimonies and Chinese Christians near refugees and persecution near the North Korean border.

"I cross the river" is based on the life of two women and two intertwined dreams. When God's plan unfolds, their lives converge. Young, recently widowed and pregnant, is facing a struggle to serve her two hungry children. She was immersed in the legacy of her loyalty to the goddess Kim Il Sung and was bombarded by the Communist Party. Through her brother's testimony, Young Soon was drawn to the God of love. She dreamed that the unborn son would grow up on another land. It is learned that children outside of North Korea will not go hungry, and Young Soon decided to risk his life and the shackles of newborn infants.

China's young missionary, Mei Lin, felt it necessary to travel to a remote mountain village in China. She dreamed of a baby crying from the muddy river. Her dreams made her feel uneasy. She used her dreams as information from God and represented a little boy and baby instead of them for rescue.

Although this is a fictional narrative, Fringebo writes with such realism and passion, I think I am reading a true biography. Due to the horror of statistics, I am shocked by the four million children who have died since hunger in North Korea since 1995.

Fringebo's writing is sensitive, compassionate and expressive. "I am crossing the river" is a wake-up call for alert and call-to-action. Provide readers with resources and advice to participate in the hope of this human tragedy. This book should be read by Christians around the world and should be available in every library in the United States. For the Christian concerned, "I cross the river" is an important book.
