Back to innocence - Poren Huang's "dog notes"

By Max Chaplin

"Good art offers endless possibilities for discussion, and its existence has eternal value."

Watching Poren Huang's sculptures sparked an endless picture. In "friends", everyone in the global village must maintain a macro perspective, not limit themselves. They must open their hearts and challenge and explore the vast world with confidence and courage [as shown in the upright, tip] - puppy posture] . The interaction between dogs and pandas is interesting, and there seem to be many hidden tricks behind the mutual civilization. One of the panda's hands is holding a pair of scissors, and the back of the dog is a hand. Are these two people playing the Rock-paper-scissors game? Or is the panda just a happy sign of victory? Some people regard the panda as a metaphor for China. Whether in Hong Kong or Europe, the space for interpretation is huge.

In 2005, Poren Huang launched the "The Dog&#39 Notes" sculpture series. Focusing on quality rather than quality, the collection has a total of 40 works to date, creating an average of 4 pieces per year. Poren Huang also staged a record of more than 20 dogs, especially the quality of black Taiwanese dogs. Based on Taiwanese dogs, his collection of bronze and stainless steel sculptures differ in personality and imagination, but they are consistent.

The predecessor of "Dog's Notes", "Tiemu Forest" metal creation was incorporated into Taiwan's art textbooks. The aboriginal democracy in the creation demonstrates the awe-inspiring vitality and fearless spirit of Aboriginal people and their ability to adapt to the ocean, plain or mountain environment. Although these works always reflect the positive qualities of the aborigines, Taiwanese dogs are their companions. In Poren Huang's Ironwood Forest, a dog often resembles a shadow that helps human characters. In 2005, when Poren Huang started his "The Dog&#39's Notes" series, the dog became the center stage. In addition to maintaining the positive quality of the creation, the collection also provides a sense of humor.

Dogs play a role determined by humans.

Heaven gives the dog the best friend of mankind! In ancient or primitive environments, humans and wild animals coexist, while dogs play horn sentinels, vigilant 24 hours a day to protect their homes and protect their owners from ending their short lives. In addition to defending their territory, they are also excellent assistants to help their owners hunt or graze sheep. In addition, dogs can heal the human heart and give their owners the warmest care. After weaning and becoming an independent creature, the dogs began to devote themselves to their owners loyally and selflessly. Regardless of their owner's anger, sadness or lack of food, the dogs never leave their masters but stick to the master. Today's dogs no longer play as sentinels or hunting characters, but become pets, and if they are abandoned by their owners, they become nervous. With the development of human history, dogs have fully proved their loyalty, enthusiasm and pure attributes remain unchanged, and contemporary people should follow this positive quality. Poren Huang uses dogs to represent humans, while dog-like sculptures are actually portraits of humans.

Poren Huang believes that in the 21st century, human beings failed to measure the failure of dogs, not to want a good life, but to lack the piety and resilience of Confucianism. Dogs dedicate their lives to humanity, and they follow them without complaint in poverty. In contrast, humans separate money from blood relations. Today's material economy is improving, but human morality is deteriorating. In addition, a weak mind, or so-called civilized mental illness, has become the norm in today's society. Unlike the agricultural or primitive African society that people meet, today's people lack the ability to resist stress, leading to frustration or emotional instability. Never blindly, humans can imitate the dogs around them and learn from their innocence and optimism so that simple happiness or positive action can bring happiness and tranquility. Dogs like simple hugs and warm interactions can admit that they will burst out happily, isn't simple happiness untouchable?

Born in a woodcarving family

For a while, Poren Huang co-located with 20 dogs at the same time. Dogs have been a part of this family since his grandfather generation. He often gives dogs a puppy and was born in the Year of the Dog. He is a typical dog expert. Poren Huang has the essence of the artist's exquisite sensitivity. In addition to a detailed observation of the dog's personality and behavior, he also has a keen insight into the connection between dogs in modern society.

Poren Huang was born in a woodcarving family. During his grandfather and father, Taiwan's woodcarving industry was at its peak. Wood crafts are often exported, and in their heyday, their woodcarving factory employs more than 100 craftsmen to produce wood crafts. At that time, they let many dogs pass the factory to prevent theft. Here, Poren Huang grew up in woodcarvings and dogs. However, he not only has excellent engraving techniques, but also has a keen sense of observation and additional sensitivity, expressing his appreciation of life through engraving. Therefore, he knows the difference between craft and art. After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Fuxin Institute of Trade and Art in Taipei in 1989, he began his artistic creation and produced the most widely discussed works. The diversity of ideas and concepts in each of his works inspired the rich associations of his audience.

However, from the beginning, Poren Huang's father resolutely opposed his artistic career and even threatened to harsh their father-son relationship. That is because in the past, due to the hardships and poverty of the artist's life, the woodcarving masters have left their factories. His father did not want his child to make the same mistakes and returned to the threat, hoping that he could continue to maintain a stable life in the woodcarving industry. However, Poren Huang's strict artistic nature cannot satisfy this arrangement and insist on creative work. Despite this, he did not want to leave his family and quietly began to create with a positive attitude. At the same time, he also participated in many sculpture competitions, and his numerous awards attracted media interviews and reports to give his father peace of mind. With his theme as a theme, Poren Huang Boren expressed his stubborn refusal to give up his own creation, while showing absolute loyalty to the family by building a family before developing personal art. His "I am not happy now!", "home" and "generational" bronze sculptures seem whimsical, but they were created at the lowest point of Poren Huang's life, when his family did not understand his art of persistence. However, he neither pessimistic nor resentful, but created a series of "dog notes" that attracted the audience's smile.

"I am not happy now!" Bronze works offer unlimited imagination. Dogs have personality and emotions, as well as territories. However, they are not irritated, but want to please humans and want to know their "I am not happy now." In interpersonal communication, using humor instead of injury is the best way to communicate. It does not create a gap or a rift, but fills in the gaps and instills concerns. When Poren Huang created this work [2005], he needed family support and understanding. Although his artistic creation journey is difficult, he always maintains a positive attitude and a humorous perspective while taking care of his family diligently. "Every day is a new beginning" [2007], a bronze sculpture with a shiny golden layer that was created when his father was sick and dead. From the father's point of view, parents want their children to be happy every day, and the child's smile gives them the greatest satisfaction. Poren Huang accompanied his father at the last minute and made sure that it was safe to wake up every day and welcome to be the greatest gift of life. Just like the sun in the light of dawn, the heart is full of light. This work is also a satire on the heavy burden of modern life, where the gift of time in heaven is not precious.

Dogs and people are not only friends but also learning partners.

Poren Huang's "dog notes" have positive attributes. Although the style and pattern of the work are different, almost every piece is full of energy and ambition! Dogs don't live long, but they live tirelessly with their owners. In the past few generations, people have a very short life span, but it is easy to cherish and live a valuable life every day. By contrast, today's people are filled with despicable self-righteousness and complacency, and treat life in a passive way in order to betray death. In particular, despite the excellent economic comfort of modern life, people are always greedy, calculating and creating burdens for themselves, leading to mental and emotional insecurity. Life is full of troubles, and negative thinking is inevitable. "Dog's Notes" is a contemporary work that reminds people of the value of positive thinking. The satisfaction and strong ethics of the past agricultural society did not produce the concept and work of "dog notes". The heroic sculpture of "Dog's Notes" brings extraordinary confidence and courage to the world of information explosion and pure wealth. Expanded chest fur...
