What is a domain name? How does it work?

The domain name is basically your website address on the internet. When people search for your site, they will put your domain name (URL) into the browser to find it.

Without a DN, your site does not exist online and cannot be found by searchers.

Why do I need a domain name?

You need a DN so that your website has an online address so that people can find the pages of your website. If you own your own website, you need to set a DN for your website.

How to get a domain name?

There are many online companies that sell DNs at reasonable prices. Once you purchase a DN from one of your companies, your website will have a URL and make it accessible to the online world.

Note: You must also have a web hosting service to be able to display it online (explained later...)

How to choose a domain name?

When you choose a DN, it is important to keep it relevant to your site. This makes visitors relevant and easy to remember, and allows search engines to rank your site high when people search for your site.

Example: If I have a website about helping pregnant women with morning sickness, one relevant DN I can use is morningsicknesscures.com, and the other DN can be: morningsicknessremedies.com. There are actually many different combinations that you can use, but it's important to put keywords for specific keywords into your domain if possible.

What if the domain name I want is used?

If you need a DN, you can try to find different variants of the DN you want. Many website addresses end with in.com, but there are other top-level domain endings that you can use like.net or org. Usually these will not be used, so if it has been adopted, you can use them instead of a.com.

If all other options are exhausted, other variants like.biz, .info, .tv, etc. can also be used at the end of the DN. If there are no options available for the name you want, then you need to select a different relevant keyword or idea and add additional words for your DN, for example. best morningsicknesscures.com (If morningsicknesscures.com is not available, and all other endings are not available, then I can try to add other descriptive words to my DN, for example best to See if you have created a unique DN).

What is a web host?

Virtual hosting or virtual hosting is a service provided by vendors that provide [1945900] physical location for storing web pages and files from your site. Think of virtual hosting companies as a landlord, who rents physical space on their servers and allows them to view web pages on the Internet.

Most vendors typically charge for web hosting on a monthly basis. If you own your own website, you need a web hosting service so that the website can access your website.
